Welcome the the latest news from the E17 Art Trail.

August is going to be busy, so we thought we would get a headstart and send August's newsletter out now!

Firstly the news everyone is waiting for...

Cover Artwork 2012

The Trail Guides will be here Thursday 2nd August.  As ever, our friends at the Rose and Crown pub on Hoe Street have given over the Red Room at the back for us to use as a distribution centre for the evening from 6pm till 9pm.

So please come along to collect:

  • a copy of the Trail Guide
  • a poster for your window
  • some flyers for your neighbours

We can't wait.

If you can help us spread the word further, you can collect some flyers to take to work, schools, nurseries or community groups you belong to and to other creative events this month.

If you are a participating artist on the trail this year, you can collect a batch of festival guides and flyers for your venue, plus venue posters, and a limited number of reusable PVC venue banners, £5 each.

The Red Room is set aside from the bar and is accessible from it's own side entrance.
After Thursday will be able to collect quanities of Trail Guides, flyers and posters from the following venues:

Penny Fielding Gallery and Interiors
The Mill
Arts and Crusts Cafe
Inky Cuttlefish Studios
Wood Street Indoor Market

Please check individual venues for opening hours.

The Trail Guide is available from Waltham Forest libraries and participating venues throughout the festival.

PLEASE NOTE: This meeting in the Rose and Crown will replace our usual monthly social event.

Website Live August 1st

website previewThe website will be going live from August 1st this year. Here you will be able to find out about all the amazing events and exhibitions that make up this year's E17 Art Trail.

You can also use it to filter the listings so you can just see the days or event types you want to see, and you can use it to build your own mini-trail with the 'my-trail' feature.

E17 Art Trail Blog

Curated this year by Hassan Vawda with guest reviews by Kate Rolison, the E17 Art Trail blog has been running since 2009 and is an amazing place to look at how artists prepare for the trail and get a sneak peak into what they are doing. Artists have already begun submitting their stories and Hassan is working on a series of venue previews. If you are an Art Trail venue and want to profile your art trail events on the blog see here for more informaiton.

When the trail is on, anyone can submit a review of what they see on the trail, so it grows into a space to get a more detailed view of what's instore and then to continue a dialogue between artists and audience.

Godiva Picnic

Sunday 5th August - Godiva to arrive in Waltham Forest
Godiva Awakes is a spectaclar performance with a 10 metre high Godiva puppet who is making an incredible journey powered by a hundred cyclists as part of the Cultural Olympiad. She is travelling to Walthamstow Town Hall all the way from Coventry right now.

Her schedule on Sunday (according to the organisers website) is as follows
1300: Carnival procession to Waltham Forest Town Hall along the following route:
A112 (Old Church Rd, Chingford Mount Rd, Chingford Rd) – A503 (Forest Rd) – Walthamstow Town

Godiva will join Waltham Forest’s annual carnival and procession to Waltham Forest Town Hall for the handover of the Book of Intent and final celebratory performance.

1500: Anticipated arrival time of the Cyclopedia at Waltham Forest Town Hall. Followed by final celebratory performance.

Please come along and join us at the Town Hall to witness this amazing event. We aim to pitch an E17 Art Trail picnic spot once Godiva arrives so you can join the procession and meet us there. We thought it would be fun to have a feast to celebrate after her arrival and support the many local organisations, artists and performers who are taking part.

Bird Box Avenue, call for artists and property developers

Bird Box Avenue is on the move. It will next be nesting in Coppermill Lane for the duration of the E17 Art Trail. Bird Box Avenue is a collection of beautiful and curious re-imaginings of home created by artists and residents in Enfield, Waltham Forest and further afield. Each maker used a standard bird box and transformed it into a unique miniature property. You can see the current collection in the Bird Box Avenue directory. We would be delighted to add new designs to the collection.

For a Bird Box Avenue Home Improvement Pack with more information on how to add your design contact morag@e17arttrail.co.uk
For a basic bird box template see: http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/helpingbirds/nestboxes/smallbirds/making.aspx

We will be creating a new Bird Box Avenue directory for the E17 Art Trail exhibition listing each one of the properties. Take a look at the Bird Box Avenue Directory of the existing collection here.

Bowerbird Folly at the Jubilee Park Festival

Thank you to everyone who helped to decorate our human size Bowerbird Folly at Enfield's Jubilee Park Festival on July 21st and 22nd. We love the bowerbird's instinct for architecture and garden design, and really enjoyed the many patterns and decorations people made for our bower and courtyard over the weekend.

Thank you to John Lee Bird and Brigit Antal for helping to develop this idea with us.

Sponsor Competitions

Cowling and Wilcox Competition

If you haven't yet discovered it there is a brand new Cowling and Wilcox trade counter for art materials here in Walthamstow. Take a look here on facebook.

As a silver sponsor of the E17 Art Trail and a new venue we are running a competition for up to four artists to create work to be shown in the new store. The brief is 'London Icons'.

Up to 4 winners will be given a 90x90cm or 100x100cm canvas and then £50 worth of products to use on the canvas; The canvas can be collage, spray paint or acrylic (Not 3D due to the pieces being displayed in windows). There are four large windows we intend to display work in and you can submit ideas for any number of them you wish.

Submit a proposal or outline with up to five images of previous work, CV and website.
Once we choose the winners, they can pop down to collect the canvas and choose their prize goods to create the piece.
