Sponsors Special

August 10th 2012

Did you know...

...that the E17 Art Trail would not be possible without the amazing support of  sponsors, advertisers and friends, which include local arts and community organisations and private businesses?

It is their direct financial support that enables the E17 Art Trail to support participating artists, local residents, schools, community organisations and faith groups, and reach the dizzying heights of promoting a festival programme celebrating the creativity of 3500 contributors!

We thank everyone for their contribution that has helped make this year's E17 Art Trail so successful. It is very exciting to see that, in addition to the growing artist community, even more creative businesses and essential resources for artists have established themselves in our area.

Sarah Hardy Cakes and Drawings

Sarah Hardy has been living a double life. For years she has exhibited detailed drawings of dead insects with the Art Trail, but meanwhile, she was secretly running a cake business in which she sculpted beautiful flowers from sugar for discerning brides.

This year all the secrecy goes as she throws the curtains wide, boldly joins her two lives and makes insects and rotting fruits from sugar.

‘Sarah Hardy Cakes’ is exhibiting ‘A Still Life in Sugar’ - Inspired by Dutch still life paintings the sugar sculpture shows beautiful flowers and fruit spoilt with blemishes, beetles and other insect life. The Stag Beetle shown here is a detail from a work that crawls and blooms, and sumptuously rots.

‘Sarah Hardy Cakes’ is an E17 business and proud of it. Born out of Hardy & Scott, which she set up with friend Lucy Scott in 2010, ‘Sarah Hardy Cakes’ is all about home baking with love and attention to detail. Cakes are made with really real ingredients and taste divine as well as looking stunning.

For the Art Trail this year we have a very special FREE CAKE offer on – just find our ad in the Trail guide and you could be smacking your lips around a handful of loveliness – for nowt!

Sarah’s drawing will still feature heavily in the trail as she hand draws insect wall paper for a house in Victoria Rd and opens her studio as usual – so make a quest of it and follow the cake crumb & insect trail across E17!

A Hidden Treasure in Walthamstow: E17 Art House

Tucked away around the corner where Church Hill meets Stainforth Road is an unexpected sight, a tiny garden brimming with flowers leading to a bright pink door. This is E17 Art House, the Walthamstow Picture Framers and Gallery, once dark and soulless Tax Office storage rooms, and now a bright and friendly gallery and framing workshop.
Opened by two locals, who between them have over 25 years of framing experience and backgrounds in art and design, this place seems a world away from the hustle and bustle of Walthamstow High Street, but is only a few minutes walk from Walthamstow Central Station.

This is the place to find great affordable art by emerging and established E17 and East London artists and designers, as well as greetings cards, including letterpress cards - hand-printed in Walthamstow.

Specialising in custom Conservation picture framing, E17 Art House has built up an enviable reputation for quality and service, as well as becoming a vibrant part of the community; championing local artists, holding art exhibitions and offering free events and arts facilities to the local housing market!

E17 Art House is holding two exhibitions during the E17 Art Trail 2012:
Artist-printmaker Kirsten Schmidt's "The Magic Flute" a magical menagerie of birds and other creatures, and illustrator Robert M Ball's "East 17x17" a series of illustrations that capture the spirit of E17, a borough brimming with life, eccentricity and colour.

Private View for both: Thursday 6th September 6-9pm, with live east-end piano, drinks, and 10% Off exhibition art on the night.  All E17 Art Trail newsletter subscribers welcome.

As well as impressive art, E17 Art House will be unveiling The Magnificent Magical Drawing Machine!
Operating every weekend during the E17 Art Trail, this wonder of modern science will be drawing visitors' portraits as they sit at the Drawing Machine booth. See E17 Art Trail Guide for operating times. Venue number 77.

FRP’s Quality Reclaimed Paint –  £1 per litre

FRP collects unwanted, leftover paint from Household Waste & Recycling Centres and commercial companies. The paint is then sorted, remixed and sold as a value alternative to new paint, particularly for lower income customers, community groups and not-for-profit organisations.

The RePaint project aims to:

  • Divert reusable paint from waste disposal and landfill
  • Provide people and not-for-profit organisations with affordable paint
  • Promote the environmental benefits of reuse.

“The repaint scheme made it possible for us to paint a huge space, making it much brighter and more welcoming. Without the scheme the costs involved would have been prohibitive” Karen Hayes, Waltham Forest Community Pool (February 2012)

For this years E17 Art Trail FRP presents Get Upcycling. Furniture and household items transformed into Fantastical and Functional Recreations, produced by the imaginations and talented hands of local people, from materials that were destined for the rubbish dump.

Get Upcycling aims to excite people about the possibilities and environmental benefits of re-using furniture and other stuff.  We hope it inspires people to look at discarded materials in a new light and question where waste can be reduced.

Maybe you’ll find a new project of your own in the treasure trove of the FRP ReUse Centre at 2c Bakers Avenue in Walthamstow. 020 8539 3856.

We are open opening Saturdays especially for the E17 Art Trail to
promote the re-use of surplus, low-cost paint.

Voluntary Action Waltham Forest

We are pleased to sponsor the E17 Art Trail because it helps bring the local community together.

We are a locally based charity that aims to strengthen voluntary and community groups by providing support such as funding advice, free-mini-websites, help to find volunteers and low cost training.  Why not register your group for free on our website and find out how we can suport you, as well as getting the latest news and information about free local networking events.
