E17 Art Trail 20th Birthday Workshop Fair!

We can't think of a better way of celebrating 20 years of the E17 Art Trail than with an evening of collective making, networking and local artists sharing creative expertise within the community cornerstone that is Big Penny Social!

And of course we can't mark this anniversary without cake - you could create the design in the cake decorating workshop. Be sure to book below for each workshop where necessary.

The Art of Capoeira

6.30pm-8.30pm

Capture the dynamic movements of the Olorum Capoeira School as they perform to the barravento rhythms of live traditional capoeira music. Jason Hawkridge will guide you through drawing techniques to bring these powerful and graceful movements to life on paper.
Beginners and experienced artists encouraged to drop in and join sessions at intervals through the evening.. Paper and drawing materials are provided. No booking required. Donations welcome.

The Art of Mosaic

6.30pm-8.30pm

Join experienced local artist Charlotte Gerrard for a mosaic workshop. Learn step-by-step how to create stunning mosaics. Choose to make a mirror, coaster, house number, or your favorite animal using materials like vintage plates, ceramic tiles, and mirrors. Class cost includes all tools, vit glass or ceramic tiles for work size max 20x20cm, substrates and grout. There will be extra cost for other materials.

Abstract Drawing Taster Sessions with Amanda Doidge

6pm-7.10pm & 7:50pm-9pm

This will be a fun, directed and process-based workshop where Amanda will share playful ways of exploring colour and mark making. The session will include demonstrations, a guided drawing exercise and an opportunity to explore on your own. You will leave with a series of experiments and strategies to take your work further. Paint stains, so please bring something to protect your clothes!

Drawing Patterns of Home

6.30pm-8pm

Explore patterns inspired by local architecture and fabric through three fun and relaxed drawing exercises led by Vasu Sellamuthu. Using a variety of tools including geometric stickers, pencils, markers, and watercolour, you'll create compositions on gridded paper. Rather than aiming for photographic likeness, you'll be encouraged to make intuitive choices, playing with scale, symmetry, rhythm, and composition to produce uniquely satisfying drawings. Open to all levels of ability. Age 11+ (Children must be accompanied by an adult).

Make your own Macramé Wall Hanging

6pm-9pm

An intimate, fun-filled Macramé Wall Hanging Workshop in Walthamstow! This hands-on workshop is perfect for both people who have tried macrame before, and enthusiastic beginners looking to try something different from plant hangers.
In this three-hour workshop, you'll learn the fundamentals of macramé, including essential knots and techniques to create your very own beautiful wall hanging. Experienced instructor, Ali Awo, will guide you step-by-step throughout the process, ensuring you leave with a stunning piece of art and the confidence to continue macramé at home.

Performative drawing: Drawing with Imagination

7pm-8pm

Warm up your body, imagination and drawing skills in this playful drawing class inspired by the theatrical creative process. This workshop led by Kally Frank will introduce beginners to theatre building techniques and how they can inspire experimental drawings and ignite creative thinking. Working collaboratively, the workshop will also be an opportunity to connect with like-minded creative people and experiment with image-making through playful games connecting our body, mind and physical space.

Knock your socks off! Dyeing one of kind socks with kitchen waste

6pm-9pm

Create your own unique pair of hand dyed cotton socks using food waste, locally grown and foraged plants. Learn the basics of dyeing with plants and shibori pattern making in this relaxed workshop and go home with a pair of one-a-million art socks!

Make Your Own Woven Bookmark

6.30pm-6.55pm, 7pm-7.25pm, 7.30pm-7.55pm

Join a fun and creative session with local weaver and author Rezia Wahid and make your own woven bookmark. All ages welcome and all materials provided. Drop-in sessions will be held every half hour. with a small fee of £3 for children and £5 for adults payable at the event. Rezia will also have signed copies of her book dancing in the womb available for purchase. To celebrate 20 years of the E17 Art Trail, Rezia's children Halima, Isaa, Musa, Hud and husband Khaled Hakim will perform a special musical ensemble at 7pm!

Mosaic E17 Art Trail's Collaborative 20th Birthday Cake!

6pm-9pm

Come together with Lula Main to celebrate two decades of the wonderful E17 Art Trail and use edible, handmade cake decorations to collaboratively decorate a delicious birthday cake to mark this special milestone of our local institution.

This workshop is all about creativity, celebration, collaboration, community and sharing! Everyone will get a slice.
